(1) Structural Biology and Taxonomy
(2) Host Interactions and Emerging Strategies for Control

Whilst there are relatively few human-pathogenic fungi, the world of medical mycology has seen many significant advances over the past few decades. These two companion books have brought together an international group of authors who have provided comprehensive reviews of the current understanding about pathogenic fungi. Both books focus on fungal agents of systemic infections with much emphasis on C. albicans and related organisms. Book 1 has a long section describing morphogenesis in human-pathogenic fungi, its regulation and role in pathogenicity. Chapters are clearly set out, well written and cover topics logically and with precision. Every chapter in both books has an extensive and up-to-date list of references, which will be a valuable resource to all readers. Book 2 includes a particularly useful series of chapters on how pathogens recognize their hosts and details on the interactions occurring between fungi and host. These chapters greatly enhance our understanding of the epidemiology of these pathogens and the mechanisms involved in disease development. The index in this book is, however, rather limited. Both of these books will be of significant value to researchers working on both fundamental and applied aspects of systemic mycoses and their control. They will be important additions to departmental and institutional libraries, but probably too expensive for purchase by individual researchers.
