Irish Division

To promote microbiology research and education within the island of Ireland. The specific aims include the following.

• Organizing two high quality symposia a year, with sessions focused on a specific area of microbiology and time dedicated to presentations by early career microbiologists
• Organizing joint meetings with smaller focus groups on the island to facilitate a wider range of topics being covered
• Working with the SGM Education Division to raise the profile of microbiology in primary and secondary schools in Ireland
• Providing relevant advice and information to policy makers on microbiological topics
