Fig. 3. Phylogenetic trees for the NP and NS genes of Eurasian avian influenza viruses. Evolutionary analysis of nucleotides 45 to 859 of the NS genes and 1072 to 1432 of the NP genes was performed as indicated in Fig. 2. To preserve space, only the terminal branches of the Eurasian avian lineage are presented. The abbreviations for the Italian H5 viruses are underlined. NS and NP trees were rooted to A/Equine/Prague/1/56 and B/Lee/40 sequences, respectively. Virus names and abbreviations can be found in Table 1 of Guan et al. (1999), in Guo et al. (2000) or in GenBank by using the following accession numbers: M16565, M80942, Z26864, Z26863, AF144303, M30765, M22574, M24660, M63780, Z26855, M22579, M63772.
