This leads to the activation of receptor-associated tyrosine kinases, as discussed in the text. These kinases phosphorylate members of the STAT family of transcription factors, which can enter the nucleus and, either on their own or in combination with p48, bind to the promoters of target genes and bring about gene-specific transcriptional activation.
