For Microbiology Educators

The Society has funds from which it makes grants to members for specific purposes. Please consult the full rules before applying for a grant. All applications should be submitted to the Grants Office unless otherwise stated.

Scientific Meetings Travel Grants - limited grants to enable early-career teaching fellows to present pedagogic research at scientific or education meetings. Application form necessary. No retrospective applications accepted. Applications accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year.

Practical Teaching Aid Awards - small grants to SGM members for developments likely to lead to an improvement in the teaching of any aspect of microbiology relevant to secondary or tertiary education in the UK.
There is no closing date, applications (on the appropriate form) will be considered during the period: 1 Jan - 31 Dec each year.

Public Engagement with Microbiology Awards - grants of up to £1000 available to SGM members to fund relevant science promotion activities.
There is no closing date, applications (on the appropriate form) will be considered during the period: 1 Jan - 31 Dec each year.

Microbiology Outreach Prize - awarded annually to recognize and reward the delivery of high-quality outreach activities. Application form necessary.
Nominations for 2012 are now closed

International Development Fund - small grants to help develop microbiology, teaching or research, in developing countries, including funding visit by SGM member to deliver lecture and/or laboratory training. Applications by written submission to the Grants Office.
Closing date 16 March and 21 September 2012
